GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University Men's Golf team sits T-9 after a hard-fought display of golf on Saturday at the Mark Bostic Golf Course in Gainesville.
A field full of tough opponents and a challenging golf course proved to be a test for JU, as the team shot a cumulative score of eight over par, placing them tied for ninth out of fifteen teams after rounds one and two.
Joseph Sullivan led the way for the Dolphins in scoring, finishing up even par after two rounds. After starting off round one with two pars and a bogey, Sullivan found his groove and carded three straight birdies followed by five straight pars to finish round one with a score of 68 (-2). Round two would prove to be slightly more of a challenge for him as he would card two bogeys and one double in route to a score of 72 (+2).
Alexandre Vandermoten, who came into the tournament in great form, was second in scoring for the Dolphins with a two round cumulative score of +3. Starting off round one with a birdie on the 13
th hole, Vandermoten went on to add two more birdies, 14 pars and one bogey to card a 68 (-2). Like his teammate in Sullivan, Alexandre would also struggle to stay on form in the second round and shot a five-over 75 with no birdies on the card to finish T-37.
Filip Raza was right behind Vandermoten in scoring, firing off a two round cumulative score of +4 which was good for T-46. Raza, following the theme of his teammates, also had most of his struggles in round two making six bogeys and one double to shoot a score of 76 (+6).
Following a one-under 69 in the first round,
Grant Haefner would make 7 bogeys and one birdie in round two shooting a cumulative score of + 5 securing him a position of T-52 overall.
Josef Hacker got off to a very tough start to his day making double bogey on both his first and second hole. He would fight back hard all day but with how tough the course was playing he would still finish with a two round cumulative score of +9.
The Dolphins finish up the VyStar Gators Invitational when round three gets underway on Sunday morning. JU goes off the 10th tee starting at 8:27 a.m.
