Dolphins Pick up Second Win of the Week on Senior Day

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. -
The Jacksonville Women's Basketball Team (15-10) claimed their second win of the week on Saturday, defeating Kennesaw State (9-16) by a score of 62-53. Asiah Jones led the way for JU in the win scoring 13 points and also adding six rebounds and a block.

It was Senior Day for the Dolphins, and all five graduating players were honored pregame while also being featured in a unique starting five from Coach Haney.

Defeating Kennesaw this past Monday by a score of 56-51 JU was determined to claim yet another victory over the Owls in just six days, and that's exactly what they did cruising to a nine-point victory.

After falling behind 5-3 to start the game, The Dolphins would go on a scoring tear shooting just near 80 percent from the field, leaving them with a substantial 16-point lead after one. KayKay Hayes, who entered the game off the bench, scored 6 points for The Dolphins in the quarter which all came in the paint.

The Dolphins then began to cool down a bit shooting 2-11 from the field in the second quarter while Kennesaw slowly chiseled away at the lead, but after two the score still read 32-24 Jacksonville.

The second half was much of the same for the Dolphins as they continued to shoot the ball well and play solid defensively. Jones who was dominant all afternoon was especially good in the second half recording eight of her 13 points. Taylor Hawks also played outstanding in the half assisting on five baskets and finishing out the game with some made free throws down the stretch.

After four quarters the scoreboard would read 63-53, marking JU's 15th win of the season and their eighth in the ASUN.

The Dolphins will be back on the court at Swisher Gym on Thursday February 24th when they take on North Florida in their second to last regular season game of the year.
