Baseball Suffers First Set-Back Saturday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University baseball fell for the first time of the 2022 season on Saturday against the Troy Trojans, 5-3.

For the Dolphins, Tyler Naumann started the game, going 4.1 innings, and striking out three batters. Naumann gave up earned three runs on seven hits.

Jacksonville loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning with no outs after Chase Malloy, Jonah Diaz and Raymond Gil all singled, but were only able to cross one run to take the early lead, 1-0. Christian Coipel picked up the RBI on a ground out.

In the top of the fourth inning with one out, the Trojans got a two strike double to get their rally going. The next Troy batter earned a RBI single to tie the game at one. A second Troy single gave them the lead, 2-1.

The Dolphins were quick to respond though, when Jackson Grabsky lead off the bottom of the fourth reaching base on a throwing error by Troy's third baseman. Cam Ridley followed that with a base on balls to put runners at first and second. After a strikeout, Blake DeLamielleure stepped up and a wild pitch thrown to him allowed Grabsky to score from second to even the game up at two.

Troy came right back and was able to regain the lead on a Dolphins wild pitch after loading the bases via two walks and a single in the top of 5th to make it 3-2.

Malloy led off the bottom of the fifth with a double and proceeded to steal third base. With one out, Gil singled for the second time in the game, this time picking up the RBI, to tie the game at three.

Unfortunately for the Dolphins, that is all they would get, as Troy got one run in each the sixth inning and  seventh inning to make it 5-3, which would be the final to even up the three game weekend series at one a piece.
