FORT MYERS, Fla. – Jacksonville Women's Basketball (15-12) dropped their second straight game on Saturday night when they were bested by Florida Gulf Coast (26-2) by a score of 78-55.
It was a one-sided matchup all night as FGCU jumped out to an early 11-point lead and never relinquished it. FGCU would even grow their lead to as large as 29 points near the end of the third quarter and never allowed it to be less than nine.
In the loss,
KayKay Hayes was outstanding and managed to record a stat line of 18 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and an assist. Coming off three lower-level performances against Stetson, Kennesaw State, and UNF it was a confidence boost for Hayes and her teammates as they shift their focus onto the ASUN tournament.
The Dolphins will enter that ASUN tournament as the fourth seed out of the eastern division and will likely host fifth seed Central Arkansas (9-18) out of the west.
In their single previous matchup this season back on January 29th, JU managed a narrow victory over Central Arkansas by a score of 55-53. Since that meeting the Dolphins have performed slightly better than UCA going 3-6 to their 1-7.
The Dolphins will host their first-round matchup vs UCA at home in Swisher Gymnasium on Wednesday, March 2 at 7pm.
