JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Dolphins (12-8) continued their Alabama trip with a matchup against Jacksonville State (17-5) in their twelfth matchup all-time. In a game that was primarily in the hands of JSU, the Dolphins dropped this contest 59-72.
For the first twenty minutes of this contest, both teams struggled to get into a rhythm, especially on the offensive end. JU shot just 26% from the field with twelve turnovers. On that same note was JSU, as the Dolphins forced nine turnovers and held them to just ten points in the second quarter. At the end of the first half, JSU would lead by just five points, 19-24.
The second half is where things began to get slightly out of hand for the Dolphins as JSU lengthened the deficit to sixteen at the end of three quarters and would not look back. While there was not much excitement or flashy play from the Gamecocks, it was their consistent ability to draw fouls (31) and finish plays that allowed them to be victorious in this contest.
In an otherwise tough game for the Dolphins, their leader, Taylor Hawks put up twenty-two points against the team she spent the last four years with for her undergraduate degree and athletic career. She would add four rebounds and five assists to her totals while she and DeShari Graham attempted to lead the team to a comeback that would ultimately come up short.
The Dolphins head back home to take on Eastern Kentucky (11-11) on Wednesday, February 9th at 2:00PM.
