JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Dolphins (13-8) came back home after a tough road trip in Alabama for a matchup against Eastern Kentucky (11-13). In their first recorded matchup all-time, the Dolphins won this contest 77-60.
For the first time in a few games, the Dolphins came out firing on all cylinders. A change in their starting lineup, adding Carmella Walker and KayKay Hayes, proved to be a key factor to get the momentum swinging on their side early. Coach Haney states that this team consists of "nine or ten starters that can come in on any given night." This afternoon's lineup began the game draining five threes and grabbing eighteen rebounds, a first-half that was as good a half they have played all season.
In the third quarter, the Colonels were able to make a dent in the lead, scoring eighteen points to the Dolphins' fourteen. The momentum was only on their side for that quarter, however, as the Dolphins immediately came out firing again in the fourth. They would put on a scoring clinic, putting up twenty-six points in the final ten minutes. JU would finish the game shooting 41% from three-point range, while hitting a season-high nine threes and holding EKU to less than half of that for a seventeen-point victory.
The Dolphins host Liberty (21-2) on Saturday, February 12th at 1:00PM. That should be another great game, after JU fell just short last time out against Liberty on the road, 48-49. Swisher Gymnasium should be exciting. "It's always more comfortable to sleep in your own bed, shoot in your own gym, play in your own place. We're in a good place overall as a group," stated Coach Haney after the victory. Adding shout outs to his coaching staff for their preparation ahead of this one.
