Softball has Successful Weekend Winning Three of Four Games

JACKSONVILLE, FLA - Jacksonville Softball (5-13) had their most successful tournament of the season this weekend, winning three out of four games as a part of the JU/UNF Spring Break Challenge.

In the first doubleheader on Saturday vs both Farleigh Dickinson (4-11)  and St. Francis (10-8), JU split their two games winning and losing by just one run.

In the first, and arguably most eventful game of the weekend, the Dolphins managed to claim a comeback win over FDU capped off by a walk off single from Victoria Rodebaugh in extra innings.

Finding themselves down 3-0 through five innings, the Dolphins would finally break through with an explosive sixth in which they recorded three runs on four hits. Rodebaugh, Kailey Harrigan, and Caroline Watson all recorded RBI's in the inning.

Following a scoreless seventh, the Dolphins would find themselves with a chance to win in the bottom of the eighth. That's when Rodebaugh stepped in and launched a rope down the right field line that would send home the automatic runner on second base to win the game 4-3.

In the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against St. Francis, JU would find themselves in another nailbiter, but this time it was SFU who would win in extra innings by a score of 5-4. In the loss, Rodebaugh continued her great night going 2-4 at the plate with 2 RBI's.

Moving forward to Sunday, the Dolphins would complete the doubleheader sweep over Holy Cross (2-7) winning by a combined score of 4-1.

In game one, the Dolphins only recorded three hits with the most important coming in the second inning from Catcher Averi Harcus who scored Allison Bratek on a double to left field. The one run would prove to be enough as Pitcher Skylar Whitty would only allow two hits and no runs in the entire game securing a 1-0 victory.

Game two was much of the same for the Dolphins as Pitcher Shelby Harpe would throw a complete game only allowing five hits and one earned run, helping JU to a 3-1 victory. Madison Reynolds led the way in batting, securing two hits on four at-bats.

Looking towards the rest of the season, the Phins will take a short break before they are back at home on Wednesday, March 9, to face Tennessee State at 3 pm.
