GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University baseball fell 1-0 in the first game of a midweek series at Florida.
The Dolphins (8-5) competed in a hard-fought pitching battle against the #11 ranked Florida Gators.
Michael Darrell-Hicks got the start for the Dolphins going 5.2 innings giving up one run and striking out three batters.
Parker Murphy came in to face two batters, and then
Bryce Fisher came in during the sixth inning for 1.2 innings of relief.
Tyler Vogel then came in to get the last two outs of the eighth inning, striking out one of the two batters he faced.
Chase Malloy started off the night with a single to center field, but that was all the Dolphin batters could do until the seventh inning, when
Jonah Diaz bunted for a hit.
Blake DeLamielleure singled in the Dolphin's half of the eighth inning, and then stole second, but was left stranded.
Defensively,
Blake DeLamielleure was able to catch a routine fly ball for an out and throw into
Christian Coipel to catch the runner who didn't tag up for a double play. The Dolphins were able to keep the Gators off the board until the sixth inning.

The Dolphins return to Gainesville tomorrow for game two of the midweek series at Florida Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
