SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Jacksonville University men's golf climbed five spots on the last day of the Wofford Intercollegiate, finishing sixth.
Joseph Sullivan shot a final round 69 to record his second consecutive top-10 finish and is playing the best golf of his career heading into the ASUN Championship in two weeks, one of the biggest movers in the field on Tuesday, rising 17 spots.
He started the day with a birdie on his first hole, one of two in his first three. After giving back a stroke on his fourth hole of the day, he made four straight pars and birdie to close out his front nine. He started the back with two pars, before birdies on two of his next three holes. He ended the day with three pars and a bogey for his third sub-70 round in his last five overall.
Freshman Jack Neil posted the best finish of his career, placing T11. He sank four birdies and made nine pars in his final round. He led the Dolphins in scoring on day one, with a solid two round score of two-under-par including an incredible second round 68 (-4).
Following an up and down first round that included a nine on the 17th hole, Neil found his groove and shot a 4-under 31 on the front nine to start round two. He then made four straight bogeys to start the back, but finished on a tear, with an eagle three on the par-five 15th, and a birdie on the final two holes to finish his day at 2-under, tied for tenth overall.
Filip Raza was one of the biggest risers in the standings on Tuesday, shooting a 3-under 69 to move up 26 spots. He made two birdies and an eagle on the front nine, before shooting even par on the back.
Josef Hacker matched his lowest score of the week, but with a vastly varied front and back nine on Tuesday. He made seven pars as part of a steady front nine, before making four birdies and an eagle on the back, while also shooting two bogeys and a double.
Alexandre Vandermoten finished tied with Hacker, and made four birdies and eight pars in the final round. He shot an even-par 72 in his first round on Monday, his lowest score of the week.
JU shot 29-under for the week on Par-5s, collecting 146 total pars and 55 birdies, as well as four eagles. Raza was the team's best scorer on Par-5s, shooting 9-under. Sullivan (-7), Neill (-5), Vandermoten (-4) and Hacker (-4) all excelled on the long holes. Hacker led the team with 33 pars, Neill had 15 birdies and Raza had two eagles.
The team next heads to Athens, Ga. for the ASUN Championship, starting with 18 holes at the UGA Golf Course on Sunday, April 24.
