Softball Gives up Late Lead to FAMU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Dolphins (11-22) dropped their first game of a five game slate this week to Florida A&M (14-23) by a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh.

JU came into this contest on a seven-game losing streak, looking to get back into the win column with a mid-week matchup with a struggling FAMU Rattlers team. From the first four innings, it seemed that the Dolphins found their rhythm again. With a stellar three inning and one hit start from Skylar Whitty, the Dolphins backed her up offensively with four runs, leading 4-0 heading into the fourth inning.

FAMU would score two runs after Ashlee Harwood would come in relief of Whitty, but JU still led 4-2. The Dolphins scraped together three more runs in the fifth to extend their lead to 7-2.

Unfortunately for the Dolphins, FAMU got red-hot in the final innings. In the fifth, they would score one. In the sixth, they'd add two more to apply the pressure to JU. Heading into the seventh, the Dolphins' lead had shrunk to 7-5.

With JU still ahead in the final inning, the Rattlers would load the bases with just one out. Whitty would come back into the game in relief of Shelby Harpe, however, could not get the final two outs after coming into a tough position. Jane'a Mobley of the Rattlers would double down the right-field line to bring home all three baserunners and walk it off for FAMU.

With now their eighth-straight loss, the Dolphins look to a "tomorrow's another day" attitude as they will face USF (33-11) at 4:30PM.
