FLORENCE, Ala. – The Dolphins (11-17, 5-3) fell just short in back-to-back losses to North Alabama (24-10, 3-5) to open their weekend series.
Game one was filled with thrilling action. Skylar Whitty began the game giving up just one hit through the first three innings. The fourth inning began what would be a seven-run effort from the Lions, scoring four in the fourth and three in the fifth to build a 7-0 lead.
The Dolphins were held scoreless through six, with the game seemingly out of reach. However, they would not go down without a fight. Logan Keith would lead the inning off with a walk, followed by Ashley Darakjian's first home run of her career to give JU their first two runs of the day. Hit after hit, the Dolphins began their climb back with RBIs from Victoria Rodebaugh, Allison Bratek, and a two-run homer from Madison Kennedy that tied the game at seven. Seven runs in the top of the seventh, to tie it at seven.
The number seven wasn't so lucky this time, however, as the Lions would answer in the bottom half with a walk-off two-run homerun to win the game, 9-7.
Game two almost brought a feeling of déjà vu, as the Dolphins got down 9-3 and put together a valiant effort in the top of the seventh once again. Although they would score three runs, it wouldn't be enough to fulfill the comeback and they would fall 9-6.
JU finishes the series tomorrow in game three against North Alabama, beginning at 1PM eastern time.
