JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University baseball fell 11-0 to FGCU on Friday night at John Sessions Stadium.
The Dolphins (20-18, 7-12) were shut out at home for the first time this season.
After both teams kept the offenses in check through the first three innings, the Eagles broke through in the fourth. A leadoff walk was followed by a home run to left. A bunt-single and a walk put two on, before FGCU tried to sacrifice the runner over and ended up striking out. A catcher's interference loaded the bases, and a walk brought in a run before a passed ball scored another and FGCU led 4-0.
JU put the leadoff man on in the third and fourth innings with singles by
Jesus Pacheco and
Chase Malloy, but even with Malloy stealing second, were not able to register a run.
FGCU came back out in the sixth and tacked on an additional run, with an infield single that was followed by a passed by and then a double to right scored him to make it 5-0.
The Eagles separated in the seventh. A leadoff double, followed by a walk put two on with no outs. A double down the left field line scored one, and an RBI single over the head of the infield in tacked on another. With two on and still no outs, a three-run blast to right made it 10-0. There were two more singles before a 6-4-3 double play brought in the final run of the inning to reach the final margin of 11-0.
JU held FGCU scoreless over the final two innings, with
Connor Hults striking out the side in his first appearance on the mound this season and
Layton Perry registering two Ks as part of a scoreless ninth.

Jacksonville looks to bounce back on Saturday night against FGCU, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
