JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University baseball won game one of the River City Rumble against North Florida at John Sessions Stadium by a score of 6-4 on Friday night.
The Dolphins (25-23, 11-14) rallied from a 2-0 deficit to earn a series opening win for the first time since April 1.
Mason Adams made his thirteenth start of the season for Jacksonville going seven innings , scattering three hits and allowing only two runs with three strikeouts to pick up his fifth win of the season.
A pitching duel ensued early between the Dolphins and Ospreys, with only one Dolphin base hit by
Elias Flowers through three innings. However, in the top of the fourth North Florida got back-to-back singles up the middle to start the inning. A groundout on a fielder's choice (6-4) put runners on the corners with one away and a sacrifice fly to center field scored the first run of the game to give the Ospreys a 1-0 lead.
North Florida added to their lead in the top of the fifth on a solo home run to make it 2-0.
Flowers got hit by a pitch to start the sixth inning and advanced to second on a
Christian Coipel groundout (5-3). A base hit by Blake DeLamiellure into left field advanced Flowers to third with one out.
Jesus Pacheco picked up his 17th RBI of the season, cutting the North Florida lead to 2-1.
In the bottom of the seventh inning,
Tommy Joseph worked back from a 0-2 count for a leadoff walk and
Clayton Hodges came in to run. A sacrifice bunt by
Jonah Diaz moved Hodges to second.
Cam Ridley also walked to put runners at first and second with one out. A bloop single by
Chase Malloy created a play at the plate, with
Clayton Hodges called out on a great throw by the UNF centerfielder. A two-out walk to Flowers loaded the bases for the dangerous Coipel. A ground ball to the shortstop for an RBI hit tied the game at two. DeLamielleure hit a blooping fly ball that landed in between the shortstop and center fielder for two RBI's, giving Jacksonville a 4-2 lead.
Bryce Fisher took over for Adams on the mound to start the eighth inning. A quick pop out to Coipel in foul territory was the first out. A one-out walk got a runner on, putting the tying run at the plate, who got a base hit into right and an error on DeLamielleure allowed the runner to advance to third, putting runners at the corners with one away. A ground ball back to Fisher turned two (1-6-3) and got the Dolphins out of the inning.
Hodges delivered a one-out base hit into right in his first at bat of the game, then Diaz dug in and got hit by a pitch to put Dolphins at first and second.
Cam Ridley ripped an RBI double into left center field, pushing the Dolphin lead to 5-2. A wild pitch by the Ospreys allowed another run to score, making it 6-2 Dolphins. After a Flowers walk, Coipel dug in with runners at the corners. Flowers snagged second without a throw to put two runners in scoring position with two away. Coipel drew yet another walk to load the bases for DeLamielleure for the second straight inning. He then drove a deep fly ball to centerfield but a catch on the run ended the inning.
Tyler Vogel came in to close things out in the ninth in a non-save situation. The leadoff man reached on a soft liner into center to get it going for the Ospreys. A two-run home run cut the Dolphin lead to 6-4. A two-out error kept the game alive for UNF, putting the tying run at the plate with two away. However, Vogel settled down and got a ground ball to shortstop to end the game clinching the Dolphin win, 6-4.

The Dolphins are back at it for game two against the North Florida Ospreys on Saturday night at John Sessions Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
