JU Rolls Past Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University Baseball won 7-2 over Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday night.

The Dolphins (23-18) used a three-run first and added four in the fifth, using a strong start from Heston Mosley to capture the win.
Mosley threw eight innings, giving up only two runs on one-hit and striking out nine batters.

For Jacksonville in the bottom of the first, Chase Malloy led off with a double off the left field wall. However, Jesus Pacheco attempted to bunt him over to third, but a great throw by the catcher nailed Malloy on a sacrifice attempt (2-5 FC). Christian Coipel, hitting third, watched four pitches out of the strike zone to walk and put runners at first and second with one out. A passed ball let the runners advance and a throw down to second that wound up in centerfield (E2) allowed the first run to cross, 1-0 Jacksonville. Blake DeLamielleure laced a triple down the right field line to push it to 2-0. Tommy Joseph walked to put runners at the corners still with only one out. The big inning continued as Jonah Diaz got hit by a pitch to load the bases for Jackson Grabsky. Grabsky picked up a RBI on a sacrifice fly to left field, to push the lead to 3-0. The Wildcats got out of the inning on a pop out to the second baseman for our number three.
In the top of the third inning, the Wildcats loaded the bases on three straight walks to start the inning. A one out groundout (6-3) scored the first Wildcat run of the game making it 3-1 but Mosley worked his way out the inning, only allowing the one run to cross home.
In the home half of the fifth inning, Coipel knocked a one-out hard hit ball into the right field corner for the second triple of the ball game for the Dolphins. DeLamielleure got hit by a pitch then swiped second base on a wild pitch. The Dolphins had two runners in scoring position with only one out for Joseph, who walked to load the bases with one out. The Wildcats went to the bullpen with one-out before Diaz grabbed the bat. The new pitcher got Diaz down on strikes so it was up to Grabsky with two outs. Jackson delivered with a two RBI double just out of reach of the left fielder making the score 5-1, giving Jacksonville some breathing room. On a strange hit to the shortstop that Grabsky, who was running from second, sidestepped, was kicked into left field for another two RBI hit by Jake Berg to make it 7-1. Back-to-back wild pitches advanced Berg from first to third for Cam Ridley. On a full count, Ridley popped a high fly ball to shallow right field to end the inning, but not before four runs crossed for the Dolphins.
In the eighth, the Wildcats got a one-out walk to get a runner aboard, then a ground out to the right side advanced him to second. Bethune-Cookman finally got a hit on the board to drive in the run making it 7-2 with two outs, but Mosley got the final out of the inning to finish his night.
Tyler Naumann came in to close out the game in a no-save situation up five runs. A two-out double got the Wildcats a runner, but Naumann responded and got the next batter to ground out (6-3). He struck out one batter in his inning of work.
