Men’s Lacrosse Falls in SoCon Championship

High Point, N.C. – The Jacksonville Men's Lacrosse team (14-3) fell 10-9 to Richmond (11-4) in the 2022 Southern Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship, hosted by High Point. '

SoCon Freshman of the Year Jackson Intrieri led all players with 4 goals in the contest. Max Waldbaum, Tyler Corpora, Jack Dolan Ethan LaMond and Jeremy Winston found the back of the net one time apiece for the Dolphins. Luke Millican stopped 11 shots in the contest for JU.

Richmond opened the contest with back-to-back goals, followed by Intrieri's first score of the day with 10:09 remaining in the opening quarter. The two programs would trade a goal each, as the 'Phins trailed by one at the end of one, 3-2.

Following a Spider goal to open the second, Intrieri and LaMond would spark a small run for JU, as the score was knotted at four with 10:28 remaining in the half. Less than a minute after a Richmond man-up goal, Intrieri would answer for the Dolphins with a first half hat trick. The Spiders would tack on a goal with 2:37 left in the half, leading 6-5 at the break.

Coming out of the break, Corpora and Dolan would kickstart a 2-0 run for the Dolphins in the third quarter, as the Dolphins took their first lead of the game at the 5:26 mark. A Spider goal with three second remaining in the first would tie the game up entering the fourth, 7-all.

Just over a minute into the final quarter, Intrieri found the back of the net for his fourth score of the day, as JU retook the lead, 8-7. The Spiders swung the momentum in their favor courtesy of a 3-0 burst, as Richmond took a two-goal lead with 2:58 remaining in the contest. Waldbaum's goal with 37 seconds remaining would trim the deficit to one, but the Spiders would hold on to secure the SoCon Tournament championship.
