Men’s Soccer Secures Draw in ASUN Home Opener vs FGCU

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Jacksonville Men's Soccer opened up home conference play on Friday night, securing a 1-1 draw vs. Florida Gulf Coast.

The game started out highly contested with FGCU notching nine shots in the first 22 minutes of the match, forcing Dolphin keeper Christian Sekanina to make three key saves which kept the game level.

Following the opening 22 minutes it was then all JU, and in the 30th minute David Robinson would find the back of the net for the first time in his Dolphin career, moving the score to 1-0 in favor of the 'Phins.

Sekanina would then make two more saves in the final fifteen minutes of the frame keeping the score at 1-0 entering half time.

Coming out of the second half the Dolphins would enjoy more possession of the ball, and in turn more scoring chances, but it was FGCU who would strike first in the half.

In the 74th minute, FGCU received a corner kick which was then swung into the box and headed home by Eagle midfielder Aaron Markowitz, leveling the game at one apiece.

Just six minutes later, FGCU's Anthony Rowan would receive a red card (two yellows) knocking the Eagles down to ten men, opening up the field for a late Dolphin attack.

JU would get off two quality shots in the final ten minutes, but neither would find the net as the game finished in a 1-1 draw.

Christian Sekanina was outstanding in his third appearance in net for the 'Phins, securing six saves which kept Jacksonville in the game early.

David Robinson was the lone Dolphin goal scorer, grabbing his first ever in the green and white off of a quality assist from Moussa Sabaly, his team leading fourth of the season.

The 'Phins will now look to get back in the win column this coming Tuesday night when they battle Georgia Southern in game two of a four game homestand at 7 pm.
