Back and Forth Contest Sees Women's Soccer Earn Point at Home

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The Jacksonville women's soccer team tied the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears 1-1 in what is one of their three final games of the season.

Goals (Assists)
47' – Sydney Brough (Emily Wissel-Littman)
71' – Shelby Brim

HOW IT HAPPENED

Logan Gonzales continued to grow as a tough challenge for opposing attacks as the seasonn wears on. Thursday was no different for the Sugar Bears, who are currently second in the ASUN. The redshirt junior amassed a total of 11 saves, with seven occurring in the second half. Perhaps the most impressive sequence of the night happened with just under 10 minutes to play when Sydney Brough sent a headed effort across the goal towards the far corner. A sprawling Gonzales parried the ball towards the right corner flag, but right at Kelly Van Gundy. Van Gundy sent a rebounded shot towards the goal, but Gonzales stood strong again to keep UCA from regaining the lead.

Fellow Dolphin and fifth-year player Shelby Brim scored what proved to be the game-tying goal in the 71st minute. A well-balanced attack that continually gained momentum throughout the second half saw Anaya Black racing down the right wing. Black positioned herself well, but her shot attempt was stopped by the Sugar Bears' keeper, Kajsa Pruner. Pruner deflected the ball back across the goal, and Brim was racing into the box to meet the ball and sneak it between the Central Arkansas defenders to tie the game with just under 20 minutes to play.

Freshmen Millie Urquahart and Nya Bridgewater also had impactful games. Urquahart was an anchor for the Dolphins' defensive line, consistently blocking shots and winning 50/50 challenges in an overall solid effort. Bridgewater generated numerous chances from the wing position for herself, including one in the second half that saw her cut between two Sugar Bears defenders 50 yards from the goal and earn a breakaway. The shot went just wide, but her impact was felt nonetheless.
