Dolphins Fall at #7 LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. - Jacksonville women's Basketball (4-9) fell to #7 LSU (13-1) Saturday night in Maravich Center. Edyn Battle led Jacksonville with 17 points followed by a new season high by Asiana Britt with 12.

For the first time in school history, the Dolphins faced off in a showdown against #7 LSU. This loss marks the conclusion of the Dolphins' series of powerhouse road games before conference play.

To begin the night, the Dolphins struggled getting on the scoreboard. In the first quarter, LSU went to the free-throw line 14 times, while the Dolphins only attempted one. Edyn Battle contributed six points for JU in the first quarter, and a three-pointer from freshman Asiana Britt, along with additional baskets from Sana'a Garrett and Saniyah Craig, left the green and white with 13 points to conclude the first segment.

The Dolphins had a much better second quarter, while seven minutes elapsed, JU managed to score evenly 13-13 with the Tigers. Battle reached her 10th point, closely followed by Britt with seven points. Back-to-back scores by Britt helped the Dolphins narrow the gap to 17 with 3:04 remaining. After more scoring from both teams, the Dolphins went into the locker room at half, after two free-throws by returner Jalisa Dunlap. The quarter's score was 22-20, and the overall game score stood at 51-33 in favor of LSU.

In the third quarter, the Dolphins continued to put up a fight. Battle engaged in a scoring contest with Tigers guard Flau'jae Johnson. These two spotlight players led the scoring, with Battle accumulating 17 points and Johnson with 18 as 48 seconds remained. However, despite the Dolphins' efforts, the Tigers found themselves with a considerable lead by the end of the quarter 52-to-82. The Dolphins managed to put up 35 second-half points, but it proved insufficient to contend with the Tiger's high-caliber scoring.
