Jax Softball Splits 1-1 on Day Two of River City Leadoff

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University softball continued day two of the River City Leadoff. The Dolphins (3-1) split 1-1 on day Two of the River City Leadoff. Jacksonville topped off IUPUI 2-1. Later, in the afternoon, JU fell short to Syracuse 4-2.  

Game 1 

Tied at 1-1 in the seventh inning, Madison Bratek reached based on a throwing error and advanced to second. Two batters later, Madison Reynolds drove in the winning run with a single from the left side. 

Jacksonville opened up scoring in the bottom of the second inning with a walk from Bratek. It stayed 1-0 until the Jaguars tied it up on a fielding error in the top of the fourth inning. Ashlee Hardwood threw a complete game, struck out four, and allowed only two hits.  

For the Jaguars, Madison Bryant and Alexa Holman struck out 13 in the loss.  

Game 2 

Syracuse opened the scoring in the top of the fifth on a lead off solo shot to left field from Taylor Posner. The Orange tacked on three more runs an inning later on a pinch-hit home run from Yamila Evans. 
 
JU's best chance to plate a run came in the bottom of the third after Madison Bratek reached on a throwing error then 
stole second. Madison Reynolds then singled up the middle to move Bratek over to third base, but the Dolphins were held there. 

The Dolphins scored two in the bottom of the sixth inning. 

JU pitcher Emma Whitfield retired 12 of 14 batters through four innings of work and finished the day with four strikeouts.  

ON DECK  

Jacksonville returns home on Feb. 14 to take on the SEC Florida Gators at 6:00 p.m. at Debbie & Fred Pruitt Complex.  

THREE STRIKES  

  • The Dolphins had four RBI's on the day
  • Jacksonville had 3 stolen bases 
  • Madison Bratek had one stolen base against Syracuse
