Baseball Drops Midweek Contest to #25 Florida State

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University baseball fell 11-2 to #25 Florida State on Tuesday night at John Sessions Stadium.

The Dolphins (1-4) drew first blood, but the Seminoles answered quickly to set the tone for the rest of the night.

Bryce Fisher got the start, and was able to keep FSU off-balance early. He gave up a leadoff single, and an error allowed a second runner to reach, but his first strikeout of the year ended the threat.

Again in the second, the Seminoles got an early baserunner, with a leadoff double, but a groundout and a pair of strikeouts once against kept the Noles off the board.

JU struck first, plating two in the second. Colin Wetterau was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame, and with one-out, Blake DeLamielleure flared a flyball to left. After a diving catch attempt was unsuccessful, the throw got Wetterau at second for a force out. Chandler Howard stepped right up and delivered after that, homering to left center.

Florida State answered back in the top of the third. A pair of singles led off the inning, followed by a two-run double to tie it at two. Consecutive strikeouts nearly got the Dolphins out of the inning, but FSU delivered with an RBI single, immediately followed by a two-run home run, and the Noles led 5-2 before the inning concluded.

JU tried to get right back in it, with Justin Nadeau reaching on a throwing error by the pitcher and taking second. A wild pitch advanced him to third, but three-straight strikeouts ended the threat.

FSU tacked on three more in the fourth. A leadoff single and back-to-back doubles plated scored two. An error brought in a third run and made it 8-2.

JU managed a pair of baserunners in both the fourth and the sixth, but were foiled both times. DeLamielleure doubled to left with one-out in the fourth, but after a walk was stranded there. Cam Ridley walked and took second on a wild pitch in the sixth, and went to third when Howard singled, but a strikeout again limited the threat.

FSU added three more in the eighth.
