Women's Lacrosse Battles Against Navy

HOW IT HAPPENED 
 
Jacksonville jumped to a 3-0 lead just two minutes into the game with goals from Brianna Samuels, Hudson Gentile, and Lauren Craft. Navy responded with three goals to tie the game up 3-3. Craft answered back for the Dolphins with a pair of goals, which were answered by the Midshipmen to show the final score at the end of the first quarter tied 5-5.
 
At the start of the second quarter, Navy scored two goals to pull ahead and show the score now 7-5 Navy. Jacksonville scored their first goal of the quarter with a goal from Grace Hobson. In a man-up play, Navy scored their eighth goal of the game. The Dolphins went on a three-goal run. Brianna Samuels dodged across the goal line to score a left-handed shot. Molly Brock and Sarah Elms both scored off a free position play to pull Jacksonville back in the lead. With 44 seconds left, Navy scored the final goal of the first half to show the final score once again tied 9-9
 
Navy got the first goal of the quarter, shortly followed by Elm's second goal of the game to tie the score 10-10. Hobson rolled crease and successfully received a pass from Brianna Samuels to pull Jacksonville ahead 11-10. Navy had the final goal of the third quarter to keep the game tied at 11.
 
Navy scored two goals to pull ahead with a 13-11 lead at the start of the fourth quarter. Elms found the net and placed a shot high to bring the score to 13-12 Navy. Jacksonville earned possession and a man-up advantage off a caused turnover by Shannon Cotter at 5:01. Jacksonville forced two turnovers and ripped two shots in the last five minutes but the navy defense did enough to maintain the narrow victory.

"Today's game was a hard-fought battle. While we didn't come away with the win, I am proud of the fight we saw in our team." Said head coach Tara Singleton. "As we begin ASUN conference play, I expect to see us executing more consistently and confidently from all we have experienced in our season so far."
