Dolphins Walkoff Southeastern Louisiana to Win Series

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University baseball walked off Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday at John Sessions Stadium, winning 6-4.

Hogan McIntosh capped off a five-run bottom of the ninth inning with a three-run home run to propel the Dolphins (8-5) to the series win.

Colin Wetterau led off the ninth with a single back up the middle to get it going for the Dolphins. Flowers then walked to put two on. Following a fly out to center, Cam Ridley then singled back up the middle to drive home Wetterau to cut the lead to 4-2. Flowers scored on a wild pitch to McIntosh to cut the lead to 4-3. With Ridley and Armstrong on second and third, he blasted the walk-off home run over the left field wall.

Things started and went well for SLU for much of the afternoon before that. After a scoreless first inning, the Lions got three consecutive one-out walks to load the bases. A hit-by-pitch scored the first run of the game to make 1-0 SLU. Dakota Stone then got the second out of the inning with a strikeout and with the bases still bases loaded, got the final out on a tapper back in front of the plate for a 2-3 putout.

In the home half of the second, back-to-back two-out walks got the Dolphins base runners for the nine-hole hitter, Elias Flowers. A base hit into right field by Flowers with the runners going scored Blake DeLamielleure from second to tie the game, 1-1. Chase Malloy hit a ball right on the screws, but right at the third baseman for the final out of the inning.

A hit batter by Stone to lead off the top of the third ended his day and Blake Barquin took over on the mound. Following a ground out on a fielder's choice (1-6), a stolen base by SLU gave them a runner in scoring position, but he was stranded there as Barquin struck out the next two.

After a quick home half of the third, the Lions went back to work in the top of the fourth. A leadoff walk and a balk call advanced the runner to second with nobody out. A hit batter and bunt for hit loaded the bases with nobody away. An unassisted double play (5-3) scored a second run of the game for SLU to give them a 2-1 lead. A walk put runners at first and second, but a fly out to Malloy at shortstop ended the inning.

A one-out hit by Justin Nadeau had Jacksonville on the base paths in the bottom of the fourth. Following a strike out, Wetterau got himself a hit back up the middle to put runners at the corners with two away. However, the Dolphins stranded them there as SLU kept their 2-1 lead through four innings.

A leadoff double for the Lions started the fifth inning for SLU. Following a strikeout, a hit back up the middle scored the runner from second to give the Lions a 3-1 lead. Barquin settled back down and got out of the inning without further damage.

Bryce Fisher came in to pitch the top of the seventh inning and SLU collected an infield hit with one out. The runner stole second base, then a fly out to centerfield got the second out. The runner was then picked off at second base to end the inning.

In the top of the ninth, the leadoff man for the Lions got on via a hit batter. He stole second base then advanced to third on a throwing error. After a line out for the first out of the inning, a double into right field easily scored the run to make it 4-1 Lions. That ended Fisher's afternoon and Head Coach Chris Hayes went back to the bullpen to Chris Lotito. A deep fly ball to left field was caught up against the wall by Flowers, who then doubled off the runner at second to get out of the top of the ninth.
