Women's Lacrosse Defeats Kennesaw St. 17-4

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Jacksonville (6-6 2-1 ASUN) dominated possession from the start of the first quarter. Lauren Craft notched the game's first goal at 10:38. Jacksonville then went on to score three of the next four goals with shots from junior Brianna Samuels, Sarah Elms, and Grace Hobson to earn a 4-1 lead.  
 
Jacksonville kicked off the second quarter earning possession off the first draw and quickly moving the ball to Craft, who struck net, making it a 5-1 game at the top of the second.
The Jacksonville defense was successful in applying pressure to the Kennesaw (1-10 0-2 ASUN) offense, only allowing two successful plays on net. The Dolphins' offense was successful in moving around the circle, earning successful plays by Elms and Samuels, giving Jacksonville a six-goal lead at the end of the first half. 
 
Elms started the second half with a between-the-legs shot, earning her a hat trick. Molly Brock had her first goal of the game in the third quarter with a goal to extend the lead 10-2. Kennesaw answered back with 7:11 on the clock to score their first goal of the quarter. Jacksonville went on to go unanswered for their next three goals.
 
Kennesaw scored the first goal of the fourth quarter in an attempt to close the gap, Lauren Ellis had another idea scoring off the draw to extend Jacksonville's lead 14-4. In a turnover by the Owls, Jenna Peed brought the ball down the field and hit net. Maddison Plitt had the game's final scoring play with less than two minutes left. 
 
"I am so proud of this group!" said head coach Tara Singleton. " All week our players took accountability, empowered each other and stayed together. The teams trust and belief was demonstrated today and fully the reason we were able to earn another conference win."

  • Jacksonville had 15 draw controls to Kennesaws 8.
 
  • Jacksonville went 4-5 on free positions.
