HOW IT HAPPENED

Two first-half goals scored by the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles proved to be the difference in what was the second conference match of the season for the Dolphins (2-5-2). The game was delayed for over three hours due to lightning in the area. FGCU came out of the delay with four shots in the first ten minutes, with the fourth breaking the deadlock early. Jacksonville responded with a wealth of possession over the next seven minutes. Beyonce Robinson attempted to capitalize on a Dolphins set piece, a throw-in deep in Eagles territory around the 17th minute, to nearly level the game at one goal apiece, but the shot went wide. Both sides saw action up and down the pitch over the next 20 minutes. The Eagles found the back of the net again before the half ended to double their lead through Kendal Gargiula. The second goal, scored later in the half, was enough to keep the FGCU lead at two at halftime.

The second half opened up early for both sides as they attempted to stretch the field in search of the back of the net. Nya Bridgewater took the Dolphins' first shot of the half just four minutes into it, but it was saved by the FGCU keeper. JU saw a pair of shots from freshmen Kayla Jackson and Madelyn Radtke go wide, but the team was pressing for their first goal of the game. From the 68th minute until the 84th, only one shot was recorded from both sides, as each team's defense tightened as the match progressed. While shots from Shelby Brim and Radtke in the 84th minute challenged the Eagles' defense, FGCU was able to claim all three points and to clinch the shutout over the visiting Dolphins.

WHAT THEY SAID

"I am proud of how our players battled," said head coach John Constable. "Away to FGCU in the afternoon heat is as tough as it gets in ASUN play. IT's all about Thursday now for us. At home, we have to do everything we can to pick up three points. We are excited for Thursday. We have good players here, and our team will show that Thursday."

ADDITIONAL NOTES
  • The Dolphins recorded five of their seven shots in the second half.
  • Hannah Bielicke and Joslyn Prosek were the only players on JU to play all 90 minutes
