DELAND, Fla. - Jacksonville Men's soccer picks up third consecutive conference point versus Stetson Saturday nightÂ
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
A rainy match resulted in another stalemate for the Dolphins, as Jacksonville walked away with their third point in conference play. After a late second-half goal by Stetson's Gabriel Toro, Jeppe Jordoson, the Dolphins' midfielder, found the back of the net in a crowd-silencing goal. Assisted by defender Cole Reasonover, Jordoson managed to save the night by scoring high over the Hatter defense in the 79th minute. Stetson came into the game with a record of 4-2-3, and in the last matchup, walked away with a 2-1 lead against the Dolphins. Tonight, JU proved to be a much-improved contender as the Hatters could not continue their streak despite their 17 shots (only two on goal).Â
The first half did not reward the Dolphins in terms of possession. JU's defense remained strong as the Hatters attempted to score eight times in the first 36 minutes. One of the two saviors on the night, Jordoson, along with Mason Duval, tried to extend the lead in the first but could not gain an advantage before the period. As the second half began, Jordoson opened with a low center strike on goal. Following that, Trey Demps launched a dangerous high right shot, keeping the Hatter defense alert. The match progressed with a high number of shots until Stetson opened the scoring in the 75th minute. After the Dolphins and Jordoson responded to even the match, Duval and Trey Demps attempted to take the lead with shots on goal. Stetson was then awarded a penalty, but keeper Christian Sekanina stood strong, preserving the 1-1 score. Ultimately, the match concluded with neither side able to break the 1-1 scoreÂ
WHAT THEY SAIDÂ
I thought Stetson were very good tonight," said head coach Ali Simmons. "They have consistently delivered strong performances at home and defeated an ACC opponent here. So, to come away with a point after being down 1-0 shows good character. They had the penalty opportunity near the end to take the lead, and Chris made a great save to secure us a point. I'm glad to see Cao getting some good minutes; he's been patient and worked hard on his rehab to come back, and he's a joy to watch. We have a lot to improve, and we will get to work."Â
