HOW IT HAPPENED

Two second-half goals from the Mercer Bears were enough for the visitors to claim a road victory on Thursday night, though it was the Dolphins who opened up the second half hot immediately.

Ines Martin, with her back to the opposing goal and just five minutes into the half, spun and played a through ball soaring across the pitch towards fellow freshman Lillian Young. Young made no mistake and hit a one-time shot that flew into the top left corner, just grazing the crossbar on the way to the back of the net.

Just 10 minutes later, Mercer scored to regain the lead they had in the first half. The offensive surge from the Bears continued three minutes later as another Bears goal doubled their advantage.

The first half started with both sides testing the opposing defenses in the first 15 minutes. Martin ripped the first shot of the game for the Dolphins 14 minutes in, and it was saved. Mercer responded with a pair of shots less than a minute later, with one resulting in the game's first goal. Madelyn Radtke ended the half by chipping the ball over a defender and hitting a half-volley on frame, but the Bears' keeper was able to smother the shot to keep JU off the board in the first half.

Not to be overshadowed was Gretchen Duttenhofer's six-save night in net as she faced nine total shots.
