Dolphins Battle Hard but Fall 3-1 to Eastern Kentucky in Season Finale

FORT MYERS, FL --The Jacksonville Volleyball team fell Thursday as the Eastern Kentucky Colonels took a four set win (15-25, 25-20, 20-25, 14-25) at the Alico Arena in the Quarterfinals of the 2024 ASUN Volleyball Championship.

Breanna McDonough finished with 13 kills on the day to lead the Dolphins offense. Defensively, the 'Phins were anchored by Kristina Nika with 16 digs, Ana Tobar with 14, and Emily Hodsdon adding 12. From the front row, Haley Yount contributed eight blocks.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Dolphins found themselves in an early deficit, losing a tough first set 25-15. Jacksonville trailed by as many as 10 points as Eastern Kentucky never gave up the lead in a set that was tied up just once before the Colonels took control.

SET 2 | Jacksonville fired back after dropping the first set to take the second set 25-20, tying the match at 1-1. The 'Phins never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 12-11 in a set that had just one lead change before the Dolphins took over the lead. Jacksonville's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Eastern Kentucky attacks in the set.

SET 3 | Eastern Kentucky responded to win set number three, putting Jacksonville in a two sets to one hole. JU came up short by the score of 25-20. Eastern Kentucky grabbed the advantage for good at 19-18 in a set that was knotted up 11 times before the Colonels took over in the second half of the set.

SET 4 | Jacksonville then lost the fourth set 25-14 to finish off the match. The Dolphins lost the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before losing the set.
