ORLANDO, Fla -- The Jacksonville Dolphins fell in the team's final non-conference game 86-66 on the road at UCF.
Freshman Enrico Borio scored a career-high 11 points in the contest, connecting on three of the team's six made 3-pointers. Borio also added his first collegiate block to go along with two rebounds and a career-high three steals.
"Enrico is a guy who can really stretch the defense," head coach Jordan Mincy said. "He is multi-dimensional. He can play multiple positions on the court. We are excited that he had the ability to execute at that level and had that type of confidence in a game of this magnitude."
Robert McCray V led the team with 18 points on 7-12 shooting. McCray tied the team-high in assists with four while also stealing two balls and blocking one shot.
With the loss, Jacksonville finished its non-conference slate an even 6-6. The Dolphins posted a perfect 4-0 record at home while going 1-5 in true road tests, the lone win coming in Blacksburg against Virginia Tech.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It took almost five minutes for JU to get on the board, doing so behind a free throw make from Stephon Payne III. For the second straight game, Payne came off the bench with Donovan Rivers starting at center in back to back contests.
Payne played 15 minutes and finished with five points.
Behind a McCray 6-0 scoring run, JU got the game to a UCF lead of 17-13 with under 10 minutes to play in the opening half. That score was the closest the Dolphins would get to taking the lead against the Knights as the green and white went into half down 47-29.
With under 13 to play in the second half, freshman Chris Arias went on a 5-0 scoring run himself to help get his team within 20 points. Arias finished his night with seven points, four boards and two assists.
In totality, the Dolphins were just narrowly outscored in the second half 39-37. Big man Tito Deng closed the night for the visitors by burying a triple, his third make from range this season.
For just the third time all season, JU lost the rebounding battle. The Knights outrebounded JU 31-24.
