GAINESVILLE, Fla.- The Jacksonville softball team fell to the nationally ranked Florida Gators 10-1 on the road.
Â
Four Dolphins (2-4) reached base, and
Alison Carter ripped an extra-base hit, but the red-hot 19th-ranked Gators prevailed in front of their home crowd.
Â
The Dolphins rallied in the fifth inning after Carter opened the frame with a double.
Madison Reynolds then singled down the left-field line, and while the Gators' defense unsuccessfully tried to catch Carter from advancing to third, Reynolds wound up on second, and Jacksonville had two in scoring position.
Gabi Robles then had an eight-pitch at-bat, where she fouled the ball off six times, and capped it with a single up the middle herself. Jacksonville had base runners, but a pop-up, strikeout, and caught stealing ended the inning with JU cutting the lead in half at the time.
Â
Florida would respond immediately in the home half of the fifth. A single followed by a home run over the left-center fence saw the Gators get their lead to three. Florida then loaded the bases and followed suit with a sac fly, infield single, and triple to extend the lead up to seven, at 8-1. The Gators went on to add another in the bottom of the sixth, thus ending the game.
