JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The Jacksonville softball team's four-game winning streak came to an end as Presbyterian took down the Dolphins 5-2 in the final game of the Jacksonville Spring Break Challenge on Sunday.
Â
Christa Pritchard (1-1) started in the circle for the Dolphins (9-12) and pitched four innings. She surrendered zero earned runs on seven hits, two walks, and struck out one batter.
Madison Bratek and
Kari Holzrichter paced the Dolphins offensively with two hits each. In what was Holzrichter's second multi-hit game of the season, she also batted in one of the Dolphins' two runs on a single to left-center. Jacksonville struck first in the opening inning after
Madison Bratek singled and advanced to second, followed by an
Averi Harcus single that scored Bratek from second. Both sides threatened in the second inning, but neither scored, and JU had a 1-0 lead heading to the third.
Â
Tucker for Presbyterian ripped a double to left field and advanced to third on an error by the Dolphins' outfielder. Two pitches later, Tucker crossed home to tie the game on a sacrifice fly. JU responded with a Holzrichter single that scored
Allison Bratek, giving Jacksonville a 2-1 lead. The Blue Hose had rallied with two outs all afternoon, but in the fourth, runs started to score for them. After Owens walked for PC, Pritchard got the next two batters out on a strikeout and flyout. Ruscoe walked, and then a fielding error by the JU pitcher tied the game at 2-2. Presbyterian then took advantage of its newfound life and scored off a bases-loaded single up the middle. It would have been more damaging had
Madison Bratek not sent a laser from center field to catch a second Blue Hose baserunner trying to score, ending the inning as
Averi Harcus applied the tag to keep the score at 3-2.
Â
In the fifth and sixth innings, both sides had runners in scoring position, but neither team could see any cross home. The seventh inning again had PC down two quick outs, but a two-out rally ensued when a double flew off the left-field fence. Two lightly hit singles up the middle saw consecutive runs score for PC, and Jacksonville was unable to respond in the home half of the seventh, halting its win streak at four.
