CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.- Jacksonville Baseball (15-18, 9-5 ASUN) was defeated on Saturday afternoon by Austin Peay (21-13, 9-5 ASUN) losing another offensive clash, 10-8.
The Governors took the lead early and held it until a four-run seventh inning where the Dolphins had an 8-6 advantage from a bases clearing, three-RBI double by
Justin Nadeau. The Dolphins couldn't hold on to the lead for long though, as Austin Peay added three runs of their own to take the lead back, 9-8. The Govs added an insurance run in the eighth, making the final tally 10-8.
Blake Barquin took the mound to start off for Jacksonville and pitched three innings, giving up five runs (four earned) off six hits, a pair of strikeouts and three walks.
Austin Peay jumped out early, putting a three spot up in the first, coming from a pair of Governor homeruns. The Dolphins quickly responded though with a pair of runs in the top of the second.
Cade Hentz got the 'Phins on the board with a sacrifice fly that scored
Chandler Howard.
Justin Nadeau later in the inning drove in
Tyrell Brewer to make it 3-2.
The following half inning the Govs responded with a sacrifice fly that extended their lead to two, 4-2.
The 'Phins again cut their deficit down back to one in the top of the third, after
Clayton Hodges came in to score off a wild pitch to make it 4-3. The Governors swiftly responded though, plating a run in the bottom of the third with a RBI single to extend their lead back to two.
After a scoreless top half inning for Jacksonville
Jack Carver relieved Barquin in the bottom of the fourth. Carver ran into a bit of trouble, finding himself in a bases loaded situation. The Senior got a 6-4-3 double play to get a pair of outs, but unfortunately gave up a run, to extend the Govs lead to three, their largest lead of the game. He ended the inning with a punchout to avoid any further damage.
With the bases loaded in the top of the fifth, the Governor pitched balked, advancing each runner forward a base and scoring
Josh Steidl, now 6-4.
Peyton Prescott came out of the bullpen in the bottom of the fifth, ending Carvers day. The Sebastian native had a solid start to the his outing, holding the Governors scoreless in the fifth and the sixth.Â
The 'Phins came up to bat in the seventh looking to deal damage and fight back. Brewer brought Jacksonville closer with a RBI base knock that scored Hodges. After a pair of walks to Hentz and
Will Gale, the bases were loaded for Nadeau as he came up to the plate. With two outs and a 1-2 count, the Sophomore cleared the bases with a clutch double, giving the Dolphins their first lead of the day, now 8-6.
The Govs once again responded in the following half-inning, this time with a solo homer, and a pair of RBIs. After seven frames down, Austin Peay was back up front 9-8.
Jacksonville couldn't make contact in the eighth and the Govs added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth off a RBI double.
Aidan Masters came in to pinch hit to start off the ninth for Jacksonville and started the comeback bid off on the right foot, with a double to get a runner on in scoring position. Hentz lined a shot to center, but it went directly to the Govs centerfielder. The 'Phins couldn't bring in Masters and were defeated, 10-8.
Peyton Prescott (3-2) was given the loss.
Three Strikes:
1. Nadeau had his second four-RBI game of the season. (Bellarmine, 3/23)
2. Eight different Dolphins recorded a hit in the game,
Tyler Hinrikus being the only 'Phin with two.
3. For the fourth time this season the Dolphins walked eight total times.

Jacksonville will return tomorrow to finish their weekend series with Austin Peay for game three of the ASUN conference weekend series. First pitch is scheduled for 2 pm.
