DELAND, Fla.- The Jacksonville softball team (19-19, 9-5 ASUN) split its doubleheader with Stetson, winning the first game and falling in the second.
Â
Each team had strong pitching in one game which led to the respective team's victory. In game one,
Kari Holzrichter,
Averi Harcus and
Gabi Robles all had multi hit games.
Kailey Harrigan also led the team with two RBI.
Â
GAME ONE
Strong pitching from
Shelby Harpe (6-6) and
Reese Wells led to the Dolphins' seventh shutout of the season. Harpe pitched the first four innings, giving up just three hits and striking out one in 15 batters faced. Wells came on in relief to start the fifth inning and pitched the final three frames to earn her third save of the season. The freshman gave up just one hit and struck out one as well.
Â
After two scoreless innings, Jacksonville struck first in the top of the third inning.
Gabi Robles earned a five-pitch walk and eventually wound up on third.
Kari Holzrichter then hit her 18th RBI of the season with a single up the middle to bring home Robles and get the game's first run across home. One inning later, the Dolphins did the bulk of their damage.
Allison Bratek started the frame with an infield single, and after a fielder's choice to
Alison Carter,
Kailey Harrigan drove a ball over the left field fence to extend the JU lead to 3-0. The rally didn't stop there, though. Robles slapped her second hit of the day to the opposite field, and
Dacie Watterson hit her home with a double to right-center. After that,
Madison Bratek hit a single up the middle, which scored the speedy freshman Watterson from second to give the Dolphins a five-run advantage.
Â
While baserunners reached for both sides in the following innings, no team was able to bring runners home behind some strong pitching. JU claimed game one 5-0, and extended its conference win streak to eight at the time.
Â
GAME TWO
In what was a different game than the first, JU fell to Stetson in game two, 12-4. The Hatters put up crooked numbers in three of the first four innings, and the only inning they didn't, they still scored one run. In the first three frames, Stetson put up seven runs to separate from the Dolphins. The first inning saw three straight hits score two runs, and an eventual double scored a pair more to see the Hatters up 4-0. A sacrifice fly in the second inning gave Stetson a five-run edge, and a two-run shot in the following inning saw the Hatters up 7-0.
Â
Kailey Harrigan started the fourth inning reaching via an error by the Stetson shortstop, and back-to-back hits from
Alison Carter and
Madison Reynolds saw two runs score and get JU within five, 7-2. Stetson responded with two runs in the fourth off a bases-loaded throwing error by JU, re-extending its lead to seven.
Â
JU scored twice more in the fifth inning thanks to singles from
Madison Reynolds and
Kailey Harrigan, but Stetson scored three in the sixth, which ended the game 12-4.Â
