GAINESVILLE, Fla.- Jacksonville Baseball (16-19) was defeated by Florida (19-17) on Tuesday evening in seven innings with the final score of 12-1.
The Gators offense was red hot all night, as Florida used a six run fifth inning to extend its lead to double digits.
Dakota Stone started the game on the mound for the 'Phins in his first start of the year. Jacksonville used a total of four pitchers throughout the night with
Dylan Faulkner,
Layton Perry and
Garrett Corbett making appearances.
Florida got on the board with help from a failed pickoff attempt that scored the first Gators run. Later in the inning, Florida added a two-run homer to extend its lead to three.
Jacksonville had a threat brewing in the top of the second when a pair of singles from
Chandler Howard and
Abdriel Delgado got a pair of Dolphins runners on.
Conner Spelman came up to bat next and was hit by a pitch to load the bases and set up Jacksonville with a opportunity. The 'Phins were unable to drive them in though and were punched out to end the inning.
The Gators added a run in the third off a RBI single and two more in the fourth off a Caglianone two-run shot.
In the fourth the Dolphins once again got runners on base but left two stranded.
Josh Steidl got the 'Phins on the board with a RBI single that scored
Blake Edmonds in the top of the fifth to make it 6-1.The following half inning the Gators put the game out of reach with six runs to make it a 12-1 ballgame. Stone was given the loss, his first of the season.

Chris Hayes postgame. "We will make corrections, acknowledge the positives and get ready to take on our rivals this weekend."
Three Strikes:
1. Steidl, Howard, Delgado and Spelman all registered a hit.
2. The Dolphins pitching staff combined for six strikeouts.
3. Steidl added his team leading 39th RBI in the fifth.

Jacksonville will return home to John Sessions Stadium this weekend to take on cross-town rival North Florida in the River City Rumble. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 7 pm and can be streamed on ESPN+.
