Dolphins Fall To UNF on Saturday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The Jacksonville softball team fell in game two to the North Florida Ospreys, 4-0.

The Ospreys recorded hits in their first seven at-bats to extend their lead to 3-0. A groundout to third was UNF's first AB that resulted in an out, and another runner scored to see the Ospreys put up a four-spot in the first.

Jacksonville looked to respond in the home half of the second inning, as Kailey Harrigan and Allison Bratek each earned a walk to put two Dolphins on base. A pair of groundouts to the UNF middle infielders, however, ended the threat.

Pitching was the main part of the story throughout the rest of the game as both starters were dialed in and prevented either offense from scoring. In the sixth, UNF was looking to add to its lead, as a leadoff double had an Osprey in scoring position. After a strikeout bounced into the plate, the Osprey baserunner advanced to third. UNF then hit a flyball into deep right field, and Alison Carter instinctively ran into the ball and gunned it on one hop to Averi Harcus at home to catch the lead runner for a double play to end the inning. The fireworks for both sides ended there, and UNF was able to clinch the series with its second win of the weekend.

After surrendering seven hits in the first inning, Skylar Waggoner (5-10) was wonderful from the circle for the rest of the game. While UNF put up four runs in the first, the freshman allowed no runs in the final six innings and gave up just five base runners the rest of the way. Waggoner received the loss, but it was the ninth time this season she threw at least seven innings.

Allison Benning (17-9) pitched for UNF and, while she surrendered five walks to the JU batters, didn't allow a single hit until there was one out in the seventh inning due to an Allison Bratek single to left center. Benning picked up her 17th win of the season in the process.
