JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Jacksonville (18-20, 12-6 ASUN) defeated North Florida (18-18, 8-10 ASUN) 9-6 in the River City Rumble rubber match on Sunday afternoon.
The Dolphins utilized a three-run third inning to defeat the Ospreys and clinch the rivalry conference series win.
Blake Barquin started on the mound for the 'Phins and went six innings strong, registering five strikeouts and only a pair of walks.
The scoring commenced in the second inning when
Jaden Bastian crossed the plate thanks to a sharp single to right field by
Conner Spelman, putting the Dolphins ahead 1-0.
Cade Hentz extended Jacksonville's lead to two with another well-placed single, bringing home
Peyton Prescott.
North Florida quickly responded in the third inning, capitalizing on a single to put their first run on the board, courtesy of a single. The Ospreys later in the inning came through with a timely hit to knot the score at 2-2.
Not to be outdone,
Tyrell Brewer showcased his power in the third inning with a towering homer to right field, breaking the tie and putting JU ahead once again.
The seesaw battle continued as UNF leveled the score again at 3-3 in the fourth inning, fueled by an Osprey RBI single.
The Dolphins regained control in the sixth inning, as
Clayton Hodges delivered a clutch hit to left field, driving in two runs. Brewer added to the lead, driving in Hodges to bring Jacksonville's tally to 6-3.
UNF fought back in the seventh and eighth innings, narrowing the deficit with key hits from Runnels, Howell, and others. However, Jacksonville's offense proved relentless, as
Abdriel Delgado's smashed his first career homer in the seventh to make it 7-4 Jacksonville. Brewer's RBI single in the eighth extended Jacksonville's lead once more to 8-5.
Blake Edmonds added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly that scored Brewer to make it 9-5 Dolphins late.
In the ninth inning, UNF made a final push, but Jacksonville's defense held strong, securing the 9-6 victory.
Divine Valle came out of the bullpen to secure the win for the Dolphins, he earned his first save of the season.
Logan Jones (3-0) was credited with the win.
