Dolphins Earns Sunday Victory, Sweep Royals

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Jacksonville Baseball defeated Queens 9-3 on Sunday afternoon to clinch their second series sweep of the season.

The Dolphins used 16 hits to score nine runs in the matchup, enough to give Jacksonville the victory.

Blake Barquin started on the mound for Jacksonville; he had a solid outing, pitching 6.1 innings, giving up three runs off five hits, with a pair of walks and four strikeouts.

Jacksonville's offense came out hot; both Chandler Howard and Tyrell Brewer lined singles to get a pair of runners on early. Josh Steidl came up next and shot a double to left that scored Howard and moved Brewer to third. Later in the inning, Abdriel Delgado got hit by a pitch to load the bases for Jacksonville in the first. Cade Hentz stepped into the batter's box next and worked a full 3-2 count. He remained patient and took ball four to score Brewer and the 'Phins took an early 2-0 lead.

The Royals responded the following half-inning with an RBI single to cut the Dolphin lead to one.

After scoreless third and fourth innings, Jacksonville loaded the bases after Jaden Bastian laid a perfect bunt single down. Delgado came up to bat and drove in Brewer to make it 3-1' Phins. After Barquin held Queens scoreless in the sixth, Jacksonville added a run after Howard singled to left field, scoring Conner Spelman from second.

Queens quickly responded with two runs of their own in the top of the seventh, but Tommy Allman ended the inning with a punchout to avoid further damage.

Cade Hentz pushed the Dolphin's lead back to two after he drove in Delgado with an RBI Triple to make it 5-3 JU.

Peyton Prescott relieved Tommy Allman in the top of the eighth with two outs and ended the inning with a swinging strikeout. The junior from Farmington Hills, Michigan, pitched 1.1 innings, giving up two hits and striking out two.

Jacksonville padded their lead with four additional insurance runs in the home half of the eighth. Bastian, Brewer, and Steidl all had RBI base hits, and Hentz drove in Steidl to make it 9-3 'Phins heading into the ninth.

Peyton Prescott had no issues in the final frame, adding a strikeout to secure his first save of his career. Blake Barquin earned the win, his first victory of the 2024 season.
