JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Jacksonville Baseball (13-16, 7-3 ASUN) was defeated by North Alabama (11-17, 3-7 ASUN) 9-1 in Friday night's series opener.
North Alabama's offense slapped 13 hits and scored six times, to propel itself to victory in game one of the weekend. The Lions started off the game hot, scoring two in the first inning off a pair of singles and adding three more in the second from a double and sacrifice fly to take an early 5-0 lead.
The Dolphins came up to the plate in the fifth looking to respond.
Blake Edmonds got the 'Phins in the hit column with a single to right and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Later in the inning,
Will Gale took advantage of Edmonds being in scoring position and drove him in with a RBI double to get Jacksonville on the board.
The next half inning UNA responded with a three-run shot to extend its lead to 8-1. The Lions added a run in the top of the eighth off an RBI double to add another run to make it 9-1.
Peyton Prescott took the mound to start off the game. He finished with two innings pitched, giving up five runs (all earned), off six hits, walked three and struck out two. He was given the loss, making the freshman 3-2 on the season. Four pitchers (
Tommy Allman,
Scout Updike,
Divine Valle and
Layton Perry) pitched in relief during the game. The bullpen surrendered a combined four runs (all earned) and struckout seven.
The Dolphins had five total hits in the game, but couldn't take advantage of runners on base, leaving five runners stranded total in the game.

- Tommy Allman had five punchouts on the night, his second highest in an outing this season (seven vs. Valparaiso).
