Jacksonville Drops Game One In Extra Innings Battle

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Jacksonville baseball dropped game one of their weekend series against Florida Gulf Coast on Friday night, falling short 3-2 in 11 innings.

Richard Long started on the mound and gave Jacksonville a solid outing. The Junior from Middleburg pitched six innings, giving up two runs (one earned), off five hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

The Eagles struck first with an RBI double in the first frame, but Long shut down any further trouble with a strikeout and a fly out where Abdriel Delgado caught it and rocketed the throw into home to double up the Eagles and end the inning.

FGCU made it 2-0 in the third after an Eagles runner came into score after a misthrow to third base.

The Dolphins offense worked some small ball in the fifth, as Jacksonville got two runners on early in the inning with no outs after Delgado was hit by pitch and Jaden Bastian forced a 3-1 walk. Nick DeLisi laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runs a base each. Cade Hentz came up to bat next and hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Delgado and get the Dolphins on the board. Bastian tied things up at two after he came into score off an Eagles passed ball.

The ballgame remained deadlocked at two through the sixth, and in the home half of the seventh, Tommy Allman came in and took over in the seventh for Long and started hot, striking out the first FGCU batter he faced.
After a scoreless eighth and ninth inning by both squads, the ballgame headed into extra innings. The Dolphins were held in check in the tenth and FGCU took advantage of the opportunity to win it, hitting a walk-off solo home run to end the game.

Three Strikes
1. Chandler Howard recorded his second double of the season.
2. Will Gale and Chandler Howard each had a hit.
3. Richard Long lowered his ERA to 4.29 on the season.
