COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — After four games in nine days, the Jacksonville University men's lacrosse team fell 16-13 to Utah, running out of time after a furious comeback bid in the fourth quarter.

The Numbers
Ethan LaMond and Jackson Intrieri were forces on the offensive end, with Intrieri scoring the first two goals for Jacksonville and LaMond coming up huge in the comeback attempt. Both finished with three goals, while Caputo led the team in points with two goals and three assists.

Defensively, Ryan Della Rocco had his moments, making 11 saves, while Tucker Garrity finished with one caused turnover and three ground balls. Nathan Kapp finished with the team lead in ground balls with 10, going 15-27 on faceoffs.

How It Happened
It was a battle of runs early, as the Utes and Dolphins traded a pair of back-to-back goals, ending the first quarter tied at two. Intrieri was the catalyst in the opening quarter, scoring both JU goals.

In the second, Utah scored another two goals, with Jacksonville answering at the 9:02 mark, this time by way of Ethan LaMond. Chris Darminio got one, and Jacob Greiner got the next one, as the Dolphins would pull within one.

Utah would respond with three straight before Nicky Brown stopped the bleeding with 1:30 remaining in the half. Utah would get one back as time expired on the half, leading 9-6 at the break, outscoring JU 7-4 in the second quarter.

Utah would continue that offensive momentum, outscoring the Dolphins 5-2 in the third quarter to hold a commanding six-goal lead heading to the fourth.

For the final time of 2024, the fourth quarter 'Phins would emerge, scoring five unanswered from 10:18 to 3:12 left in the fourth, cutting what appeared to be an insurmountable lead down to just two. 

The Dolphins continued to push with the season on the line; a shot off the post with just 1:08 remaining was the final possession for Jacksonville as the Dolphins fell just short in the ASUN Championship game.
