JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Jacksonville Baseball was defeated in seven innings by Georgia Southern, with a final score of 12-2.
The Eagle's offense got off to a scorching start with eight runs through the first two innings, giving them a substantial lead that the Dolphins couldn't catch up to.
Georgia Southern got out to a great start with a home run on the first pitch of the game. The Eagles added two more in the first with another homer, this time a two-run shot.
In the following inning, the Eagles offense didn't let up, this time putting up a five spot in the second to secure a big 8-0 lead through the top of the second.
Jacksonville responded in the bottom of the second with a run of their own after Will Gale singled with the bases loaded to score Tyler Hinrikus to get the 'Phins on the board.
JU added a run in the third after Hinrikus singled in Tyrell Brewer to make the score 8-2.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the Georgia Southern offense did not let up, putting up a four spot in the fifth inning and an additional run in the sixth to make it 13-2.
With a scoreless seventh inning by the 'Phins offense, it effectively ended the game due to the NCAA run rule. Logan Jones (2-1) was given the loss.
Three Strikes
1. Will Gale, Abdriel Delgado, Tyler Hinrikus, Josh Steidl, and Jackson Westmoreland all recorded a base hit.
2. Tyrell Brewer and Will Gale each stole a base.
3. The Dolphins pitching staff combined for five strikeouts.
