FIU Defeats Jacksonville 3-0

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville fell 3-0 to FIU Sunday (Aug. 25) at Southern Oak Stadium. With the loss, the Dolphins dropped to 0-3-0 overall losing their home opener after a two-game road trip to start the year.

How it Happened

The Panthers took a 3-0 lead into the half, but Jacksonville kept FIU off the scoreboard the remainder of the game. Pia Bozic led Jacksonville with four saves, starting the second half in relief of Gretchen Duttenhofer. The Dolphins recorded six shots in the loss, four of them on goal. Logan Gonzales led the team with three total shots and two on goal. Manuela Restrepo, Mariama Dabo and Laura Di Mascio all recorded a single shot.
Jacksonville faced 19 FIU shots, eight of them on goal.

Coach's Comments
"Another tough test for us today against a very strong, well coached team," coach Ryan Moon said. "By playing this tough schedule, we are learning a lot about how we play but also learning about players. We have a competitive roster and each week we are seeing who can do the things we are asking of them. We can take away from the last couple games that we need to begin the game stronger and more stable. Conceding early (goals) changes the dynamic of the game and makes it an uphill battle. I'm proud of our reaction for the last 60 minutes where we kept working until the final whistle and worked our way into the game. We'll look to bounce back quickly, learn some things and be ready to go again on Thursday."

Game Notes

  • Jacksonville's Di Mascio received one yellow card.
  • Bozic collected four saves for the Dolphins, a season-high.
  • Jacksonville put four shots on goal, a season-high.
