West Georgia Defeats Jacksonville

CARROLLTON, -- Jacksonville came up short against West Georgia 2-0 Sunday (Sept. 29) on the road at University Field. Despite the Dolphins outshooting the Wolves 20-5, JU couldn't find the back of the net.

Jacksonville fell to 2-6-2 overall and 1-2-1 in ASUN play after the defeat.

How it Happened

Jacksonville kept West Georgia scoreless in the first half before surrendering two goals in the second. In net, Pia Bozic played the entire game but did not record a save after facing five shots and two on net.

For the visiting Dolphins, the 20 shots taken tied the team's output against Queens for most all season. Eight of JU's shots were on goal, which also tied the output against Queens.

Payton Lauer led the way in shots with a team-high five, followed by usual suspects Manuela Restrepo and Logan Gonzales who each recorded three shots. Gonzales led the team with two shots on net.

Coach's Comments
"Overall, it was frustrating not to get something from our opportunities but again we need to be more clinical in the final third," head coach Ryan Moon said. "Congratulations to UWG on their first conference win, they stayed organized and did a good job."

Game Notes

  • Jacksonville received one yellow card to Bayleigh Humbert.
  • Lauer's five shots were a season-high.
  • Lilian Carhart played the entire 90 minutes, her second full game in conference play.
  • Restrepo leads the team in shots (27) and shots on goal (15) so far this year.
