The Jacksonville women's basketball team fell to the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles 92-50 Saturday.
The Dolphins (7-9, 1-3, ASUN) were led by sophomore forward
Saniyah Craig. The Phoenix, Arizona, native scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. She leads the ASUN in rebounding, averaging just under 10 rebounds per game.
Freshman guard
Comari Mitchell dropped 11 points, her second-straight game scoring in double figures.
The first quarter was a fast-paced offensive showcase. The intensity matched the expectations of a match-up with the first-place team in the league. After the first media timeout, the Eagles found their offensive rhythm to close out the quarter and led 28-14.
The Dolphins' offense tried to find an answer in the second quarter. Mitchell led the way in the first half, finishing with eight points. Jacksonville consistently got to the free throw line, hitting 10 of 15 shots at the charity stripe in the first half.Â
FGCU continued to execute offensively and pulled away in the second half. The Dolphins battled down low throughout the third and fourth quarter. Craig fought for rebounds and kept getting opportunities at the rim. She scored seven of her eleven points in the second half.Â
