Jacksonville Wins Eighth-Straight Match With Bellarmine Sweep

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- The Jacksonville volleyball team won its eighth-straight match as it swept the Bellarmine Knights, 3-0, on home court. The Dolphins (16-3, 7-0 ASUN) remain undefeated in conference playing, dropping just two sets through their first seven league contests.

JU was led by junior Claire Mrukowski's 12 kills. She tied a season high with four kills per set while also adding a season-high four digs and three blocks.

How It Happened
Set 1
The Dolphins raced out to an early 6-0 lead with three Mrukowski kills and three Bellarmine errors. Junior Rebekah Williams recorded a kill to put the Dolphins up 15-11, starting a 4-0 run ending in an ace from junior Alija Heins.

As the Knights tried to battle back, service errors would be their ultimate undoing, putting the Dolphins near an early set victory. Senior Breanna McDonough marked her first appearance since Oct. 4, recording a kill to put the Dolphins up 22-16. A pair of errors closed it out for the 'Phins, putting them up a set early.

Set 2
The second set was another dominant display for Jacksonville, but it took a few moments to settle in.The Knights took an early lead, 6-5, before the Dolphins fully settled into the match. McDonough put JU back in front, but Bellarmine remained close.

Jacksonville won 12 of the final 16 points, cruising down the home stretch to take a two-set lead. Williams would be the one to close it out, scoring the final two kills as the Dolphins took Set Two, 25-19.

Set 3
The Dolphins took another early lead in the third, going up 5-1 after Mrukowski's first kill of the set. The Knights rallied, though, even taking the lead, 10-9. Jacksonville answered with a 5-0 run, finished off by a big solo block from Williams.

JU stayed in pole position down the stretch, but Bellarmine wouldn't quite go away. Jacksonville's hitters called game, with Mrukowski putting the 'Phins up 23-18, and Williams putting JU on set point. It was back to Mrukowski for the winner, as Jacksonville took Set Three, 25-19, to win the match.
