Jacksonville Advances Past Lipscomb to ASUN Semifinals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Jacksonville men's soccer team defeated Lipscomb University on Saturday night, earning a 2-0 shutout victory in the opening round of the ASUN Men's Soccer Championship at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

The Dolphins controlled the action throughout the match, holding a significant 19-5 advantage in shots over the Bisons. Jacksonville found the back of the net first when Diego Valles scored an unassisted goal in the 16th minute to give the Dolphins a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

Jacksonville's defensive unit delivered a sterling performance, limiting Lipscomb to just two shots on goal. Goalkeeper Christian Sekanina secured the clean sheet for the Dolphins, tallying two saves in the victory.

The offense broke through again late in the second half to solidify the win. Juan Pablo Gonzalez scored the Dolphins' second goal in the 82nd minute (81:18), assisted by Felix Kogler, his second assist in two consecutive games.

"A complete performance by the group, we pressured the ball high and defended the direct balls equally as well," Coach Simmons said. "We were always a threat in possession - so happy for the team. A great instinctive goal by Diego Valles who's been first class since the moment he arrived at JU. On the second goal, it was a great cross by Felix Kogler to Juan Pablo Gonzalez to finish the game and give a reward for both of their efforts. Coach Michael, Josh and Tom as always did an excellent job preparing the team and I'm very lucky to coach this group. Onto the next!"
