JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- The Jacksonville Dolphins defeated the Queens Royals in four sets Saturday night, but it wasn't just another win on the ledger. The victory was JU's 20th of the season, a milestone the program hasn't reached since 2013.
The marker is another note in a massively successful campaign for the Dolphins that saw them clinch a spot in the conference tournament this season. JU is still in position to win a regular season conference crown as well.
In the victory over Queens, junior
Claire Mrukowski stole the show with a season-high 19 kills while hitting a crisp .548. Three other Dolphins finished with double-digit kills as the team hit .303.
How It Happened
Set 1
The Dolphins took an 11-5 lead early, setting the pace in the match's opening set. Mrukowski pushed that lead to 19-12 with JU in control. The Royals responded to take a 23-22 lead and win the set 25-23.
Set 2
From that point on, the Dolphins won back momentum with three-straight set wins. It looked for a moment that Queens could take a second set, as the visitors led 12-8 early in the game. JU won back the lead, but the Royals responded to take a 21-20 lead late.
Queens took the lead to set point, 24-23, but Jacksonville had a response. Senior
Breanna McDonough hammered a kill from the right side and an error gave the Dolphins a set point of their own. Graduate student
Madi Novak closed it out with a powerful kill, swinging momentum to JU.
Set 3
Six Mrukowski kills highlighted a lights-out third set for the Dolphins. Jacksonville was in complete control after a Queens error gave JU a 22-16 lead. Mrukowski and McDonough added to their tally to put the 'Phins on set point, and
Rebekah Williams closed it out with a kill.
Set 4
Novak and Mrukowski pushed Jacksonville over the finish line in the fourth, notching five kills each in what ended up being the decisive set. Yount put the Dolphins on match point, and McDonough put the final nail in the coffin to give JU the four-set win.

Coach's Comments
"This was a great weekend for us," head coach Alicia Manguiat said. "We played our brand of volleyball at a high level and executed the way we needed to. We played team volleyball and responded when we faced adversity. This is a big step for our program, but we have a lot more we want to achieve."
