Jacksonville Falls at Home to Bellarmine

The Jacksonville women's basketball team fell to the Bellarmine Knights in the penultimate home game of the season, 78-73.

The Dolphins (13-14, 7-8 ASUN) were led by senior guard Edyn Battle. Jacksonville's leading scorer finished with a team-high 18 points, and she added five rebounds and three assists.

Bellarmine started fast offensively, taking a commanding lead in the first quarter. After the early shock, the Dolphins rebounded with a strong second quarter. Senior guard Priscilla Williams led the way in the second quarter, grabbing eight rebounds and pushing early offense.

Jacksonville ripped off an 8-0 run to start the second quarter and outscored the Knights 22-14 in the period to cut the deficit to one at the halftime break.

The Dolphins pulled ahead for the first time in the third quarter. Sophomore guard Saniyah Craig scored first to give Jacksonville the lead, and the teams traded buckets in a back-and-forth third quarter.

Freshman forward Mariah Knight got involved in the third, scoring seven points against her hometown team to give the Dolphins a second-half spark. JU trailed by three at the end of the third.

Williams tied the game at 57 with six and a half minutes left, splashing home a long-range effort. Battle gave Jacksonville a 63-61 lead from the free-throw line. The Knights answered with a triple, but graduate student forward Makayla Edwards retook the lead with a layup.

The Dolphins continued to battle, but Bellarmine retook the lead and held on the rest of the way for the victory.
