Dolphins Come Up Short in 8-4 Loss to Ospreys

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --Senior Josh Steidl racked up three hits, but the Jacksonville Dolphins fell to the North Florida Ospreys 8-4 Friday.

In addition to his three hits, Steidl had an RBI to lead the Dolphins. Sophomore Jonah Shields put together a standout effort as well, going 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and two RBI. Sophomore Jaden Bastian also helped out for Jacksonville, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Dolphins got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with a run in the top of the first. JU got an RBI single from Steidl, scoring Bastian from second.

Jacksonville lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the seventh trailing 7-1. The 'Phins pushed across a run on Shields' one-out RBI double, which brought the score to 7-2.

Chandler Howard worked the bases with a walk, stolen base, and aggressive baserunning before scoring on a wild pitch to make it 7-3.

The Ospreys expanded their lead to 8-3 before the Jacksonville offense got back in gear, biting into the lead in the ninth. The Dolphins recorded a run on Shields' one-out solo homer—his first of the year—off junior Brandon Adams, tightening the North Florida lead to 8-4. The ballgame ended with that ninth-inning rally falling short.

GAME NOTES
-JU left 10 runners stranded on base in the loss.
-Jacksonville pitchers faced 42 North Florida hitters in the game, allowing eight ground balls and 12 fly balls while striking out four.
-Howard picked up his first stolen base of the year.
