FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Dolphins dropped the third game of its weekend series with FGCU 9-3 Sunday. The Eagles swept Jacksonville (13-13, 0-3), with JU falling in the first two games 3-2 and 4-1 respectively.
Sunday's game was close for most of the afternoon with FGCU taking an early 1-0 lead before Jacksonville tied things up in the third. Gabby Baylog hit a sac-fly that scored a runner and gave JU momentum heading into the bottom of the frame.
However, an FGCU three-run homer broke the game open and put JU behind for the rest of the contest.
Jacksonville scored a run in both the fifth and seventh innings. In the fifth, Jazz Jones got to home plate after Haley Fox reached on a fielder's choice. In the seventh, Baylog hit a double that scored Madison Bratek.
As a whole, JU tallied five hits. Baylog led the team with two RBIs. Through the first week of conference play, Baylog is second on the team in batting average with a .329 and third on the team in hits with 23.
In the circle, Skylar Waggoner got the start. Waggoner (3-5) pitched two innings and gave up two hits and a run.
Jacy Harrelson, Reese Wells and Hailey Strunk all pitched following with Wells going 2 2/3s innings.
GAME NOTES
- Jacksonville pitchers faced 33 FGCU hitters in the game, allowing 12 ground balls and five fly balls.
- The Dolphins drew five walks from FGCU pitching.
- Baylog led the Dolphins at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and two RBIs.
