NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Jacksonville University men's lacrosse team defeated Iona 18-4, ending a two-game road trip in New York with a fourth straight victory.
How It Happened
It was all Jacksonville from start to finish, as JU scored the first 11 goals of the game. It was the third time in six games this season that the Dolphins managed a run of 10 or more.
The catalyst for the Jacksonville offense was
Jack Taylor, with Taylor scoring four times in the first half, ending with 6 goals and two assists.
After a 9-0 first half score,
Drew Rippeon took the second half opening faceoff to the net, cashing in and building the lead to double-digits.
Taylor scored his fifth of the game two minutes later, to take an 11-0 lead. Iona found a way into the scoring column later on in the third to make it 11-1.
Three straight for JU followed, with
Daylin John-Hill,
Drew Kessenich and Taylor all continuing recent runs of success and making it 14-1.
JU emptied the bench shortly after, finishing with 11 different players earning a point in the game, seven of those earning multiple in the 18-4 victory.
The Numbers
- Jack Taylor led all scorers in the game with 8 total points. It is tied for the most points by a JU player this season.
- Daylin John-Hill continued a scorching freshman campaign, adding another 3 goals and 3 assists to his season totals.
- Breyden Harrison and Aaron Toguri each led the team with four ground balls with Harrison causing two turnovers in the game.
Head Coach John Galloway
"I am proud of the boys for finding a way to go 2-0 this weekend. We haven't played great lacrosse, but we continue to find out more about ourselves each week. As long as we continue to maintain a hunger to develop, I am excited and encouraged to see where this season could take us.
Today, I thought Ryan Della Rocco and our entire defensive unit was suffocating in their approach. That allowed us to figure it out on the offensive end. We have to be very reflective on that end. We've got to get some things right, but I am encouraged by the direction.
Now our focus shifts solely to High Point week!"
Next Up
